“MICHAEL” 30”x40” acrylic on canvas. Part of my new series inspired by Roma. Witness how ideas come to life and the process behind it all. The bronze statue of St. Michael the Archangel at the top of Castel Sant'Angelo, or Castle of the Holy Angel, was created in 1753 by Peter Anton von Verschaffelt. The statue depicts the winged angel sheathing his sword, as if to protect the castle from evil. The castle's connection to St. Michael dates back to the sixth century, when Pope Gregory the Great had a vision of the archangel during a plague. #rigoleonart #miamirenaissance
